Privacy policy

This is my personal portfolio site. I built it so people could read about my work, and I’m not collecting anything about you to do that. Here’s exactly what happens when you visit.

The short version

• AnalyticsNone. I don’t run Google Analytics or any other visitor tracking.

• Forms and accountsNone. There are no sign-ups, comment boxes, or contact forms here.

• Selling your dataNever. I don’t sell, rent, or trade anyone’s information.

What my web host sees

Like every website, this one runs on a server, and my hosting provider keeps standard server logs. Those logs can include your IP address, your browser and device type, the page you asked for, the page that sent you here, and the time of the request. The host uses them to keep the site running and to block abuse. I don’t use them to identify visitors.

The host also runs a quick browser check on your first visit and sets a cookie named __test to remember that you passed. It exists to keep bots out. It doesn’t track you across other websites.

Things that load from other companies

A few parts of the site come from outside services, so your browser connects to them directly and they can see your IP address:

• Google Fonts. The site’s typefaces load from Google’s font servers on every page. Google explains what it logs in its Google Fonts privacy FAQ and privacy policy.
• Datawrapper and Flourish. The interactive charts in my Uncrustables and Sound Transit data stories are embedded from these two tools. They only load on those pages. See Datawrapper’s privacy policy and Flourish’s privacy policy.

I link out to other sites too, like LinkedIn, Figma, and the sources behind my writing. Once you click through, you’re on their site and their privacy policy applies.

If you email me

If you write to kyle@kylewickline.com, I’ll have your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you tell me. I use that to write back, and that’s it. I won’t add you to a mailing list or pass your message along to anyone without asking you first. If you’d like me to delete our conversation, just say so.

Keeping the site secure

The only person who logs in here is me. The site uses a security plugin that records the IP address behind failed login attempts so it can block people trying to guess passwords. Regular visitors never touch that part of the site.

Kids

This site is written for employers and colleagues, not children, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Your choices

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work (you may just see the host’s browser check again). If you want to know what information I have about you, or want it deleted, email me and I’ll take care of it.

Changes

If I add something to the site that changes any of this, like analytics or a contact form, I’ll update this page and the date at the top first.
